This Board's Story

Lil' Dynomite!

Boasting a fat outline, an ultra lifty and smooth round tail, with a single sharp channel out the tail, this 6'0" and under was described by a guy, for whom I’ve shaped six boards, as the best board he has ever ridden. Another guy a little smaller (about 150 lbs) described it as magic.

Truthfully, I haven't made more than about ten of these, but the very first board Eric from OB said was outrageous, did whatever he wanted it to, and went anywhere he put it. It got into waves super easy and he felt no kinks in the feel of the board.

I’ve sent someone to mainland Mexico to surf points with this shape and pushed a few through a shop account I had for a long time in OB. The shape sells itself with that medium round rail, single concave, semi thick tail block, relatively relaxed overall rocker throughout the board, and ability to easily handle overhead surf.

Initially it was shaped in EPS and glassed with 4 oz. cloth with epoxy resin. That ultra light, flexy personality transformed an already fatter outline small thruster into a go-to staple for smaller, lighter surfers.

Take it to all the top spots at La Jolla reefs and all the beach breaks from Blacks to Baja, Malibu, South Mission jetty and Avalanche, and IB spots like Pepperoni Point. Airs, slick cutbacks and hold in the barrel, drive down the line and great stability from its wider outline - if you are 140-170 lbs, this board is DY-NO-MITE!!!!
